This European Eagle Owl was visiting Inverness High Street to help raise funds for the Bird of Prey Rescue Centre based in nearby Croy.

Not traditionally considered a native Scottish owl this huge (5 foot wing-span) bird had to be rescued in 2006 after concerns over the disruption to local birds, wildlife & pets – although harassment of the town’s resident seagulls had reportedly been very welcome!

No matter how elegant and graceful they appear in the water, swan’s are BIG birds and a wee bitty scary when they waddle towards you on land – especially if you are crouched down to their level and uncertain how close they really are outside the viewfinder!

A bit out of focus and snapped as I was almost falling over backwards in haste to scuttle farther away made me reckon this was an ideal shot for imitating a lomography kind of feel to the image.

For forty years my Dad worked with Aberdeen Council’s Street-lighting teams. Often when out walking at night, especially when making my way home after a long & tiring day, I think about his job and I think of how just by maintaining these lights he helped keep the streets safer for me, even now, still tonight I felt safe walking in the dark.

Every Dad is a superhero.

When learning what a new camera is capable of it’s always heartening to get a pleasant surprise. In this case a quick snapshot taken on the way back from a local shop came up trumps with Venus shining bright and steady in a lovely blue-gradient coloured sky.

I’m not particularly keen on the “podgy” aspect ratio though and may end up cropping many of the shots from my G10. As my only complaint so far, it’s not a biggie!

Blog Info

The SpoiltCat.com Blog only has one rule, “Never apologise for lack of updates.”

If there’s something interesting to share then we’ll try to find the time to share it, if not we’ll try to find something interesting. Updates will be irregular, we’ll neglect you and you may wonder if there will ever be another article.

Don’t worry though, we’ll write again soon—where “soon” is an undefined quantity …
